Am I rickrolling you or posting text to an 800-page document that may well preview compliance filings to the order well all see soon? Only one way to find out tinyurl.com/5755wsz9
Well this is a fun news Friday for #energytwitter -- FERC'S transmission rule has leaked, text here so you don't have to wait another 3 days bit.ly/3BlS71b
Indeed. Proponents of those 2030-2040 resources should find ways to compliment the solar + storage buildout we’re seeing now. One way is pursuing transmission projects that can be delivered, say, around 2030 to ship solar but are also ready for a new wave of gen 5-10 years later.
Should we build new nuclear plants, next gen geothermal, and offshore wind to get the Western grid the rest of the way off of fossil fuel dependence? Yes. Will those things make a meaningful contribution to our power mix this decade? No, unfortunately. Next 5+ years all ☀️+🔋
Whether using the world’s largest airplane or other means to build them, can anyone point me to analysis of extremely tall onshore wind on the scale Radia is talking about?
NEW SHIFT KEY: Why a climate startup is trying to build THE WORLD’S BIGGEST AIRPLANE. We speak to Mark Lundstrom, CEO of Radia, a $1B startup that came out of stealth last week. It’s trying to build a plane longer & wider than a 747 in order to haul wind turbine blades on land.
If you’re putting in all the work to make synthetic fuels, why not try and improve the end product vs fossil-based liquids? Any possibilities for this?
The more one reads about Jet A, Jet A1, Jet B, etc, while it tends to refined and mixed more carefully than vehicle gasoline and diesel, it's not like it's and ideal formula for aircraft. If you are building a mixed bio & synthetic fuel from the ground up, you could optimize it.
Great summary of the steps states can take to advance offshore wind. @SamTRicketts any ideas for how to apply these ideas on the west coast?
Offshore wind power is a promising way to hit our climate commitments, despite recent setbacks. Here are four actions states can take to harness wind power to hit their clean energy goals. collaborative.evergreenaction.com/memos/overcomi…
A bit more detail provided in this chart from BPA. South-North flows on the pacific AC intertie we’re maxed out throughout the event. Seems as though every time a weather event like this happens, we get more proof of the value of interregional transmission.
3 days of 🌬️winter storm🌨️ real-time energy prices visualized in a minute We picked a representative subset of market nodes across the US, colored by price to show patterns that otherwise require examining time series across thousands of individual points Thoughts below👇
RTO West! Fun fact: lore holds that there was real progress on this right up until 2003 when FERC dropped the standard market design NOPR, which would have cut out a lot of the unique west-specific market design they’d hashed out. Fell apart after that.
Doing some research on SPP's RTO West and it looks like they weren't the first to use that name... Check out this gem from Harvard with all the glory of 3x photocopied slides from the year of Our Lord 2000 hepg.hks.harvard.edu/files/hepg/fil…
Hey #energytwitter - can someone turn this 2-second Julia Roberts clip into a gif? I think it will come in handy. youtube.com/watch?v=7YU50e…
The Northwest #OffshoreWind Conference returns! Join us Jan 30-31 in Portland to discuss the #PNW's preparations for #OSW leases in Oregon later next year. We must make the most of this opportunity for ALL in our region. #NOWCon24 Register: pacificoceanenergy.org/nowcon
This was the first look at a west coast wide offshore transmission system, including benefits beyond offshore wind via strengthening the western interconnection along the coast. @PacOceanTrust was happy to help! More to come with a larger follow-on study underway now by PNNL/NREL
"An Offshore Wind Energy Development Strategy to Maximize Electrical System Benefits in Southern Oregon and Northern California" BOEM-solicited, PNNL-authored. nationaloffshorewind.org/projects/an-of…
Can’t wait to see what the next one looks like.
