Some of the strangest and most frightening paintings ever made: 1. The Dog by Francisco Goya (1823)
Mel Gibson’s Series on the Great Siege of Malta! So pumped about this! I can’t imagine a better setting for a historical war drama. Most folks have no clue how cool this story and setting is. Here’s a thread 🧵about what we’re in for:
Why does Paris look the way it does? Well, until the year 1853 it was a diseased and overcrowded Medieval city — then the biggest urban renovation in history was announced. This is the story of how Paris was transformed into the world's most popular city...
"Mladá a fyzicky zdravá Nizozemka kvůli těžkým depresím podstoupila eutanazii" Přečetl jsem si několik komentářů na Novinkách a rovněž se k tomu vyjadřovalo pár lidí na Twitteru. Z reakcí mi bylo na zvracení. A protože je toto téma pro mě důležité, něco Vám k němu napíši:🧵
It sounds like a boring topic, but concrete is one of the most revolutionary inventions in history. For example, concrete now weighs more than everything else humans have ever made combined. So here's the story of how it has changed the world, for better and for worse...
Quick 🧵: Kingdom of Heaven is such a fantastic example of how aesthetics, when done right, will win out every time in hearts and minds, and how artistic mediums such as film (like any art) will have its greatest impact in ways its creators often aren't able to predict. 1/
‘Everything was fine from 800’ That’s an interesting date to start from. I wonder if anything happened before 800 that might be considered dark.
There were no "Dark Ages". Tech, art, and society advanced just fine from 800-1450AD. I assume this "Dark Ages" concept was invented by nerdy Romaphiles at some point during the Enlightenment, but I can't be assed to look it up.
"Máte raději auta než lidi." Není to už opravdu ostuda, když to tak vnímá i jeden ze světově nejuznávanějších architektů a urbanistů Jan Gehl? Vzhlížíme sice k Vídni (kde počet aut na obyvatele klesá), ale velká část lidí si tady pořád přeje dopravu jak v Moskvě. Ach jo.
Jestli neco absolutne nepobiram a naplnujeme me to hlubokym odporem k tem lidem i ideologii, kterou hlasaj je to tohle. Strhavani plakatu s fotkama unesenych Izraelcu. Jako chapu, ze je to soucast informacni valky, kterou vedou obe strany. Ale zaroven na tech fotkach nejsou lidi,…
This 228 year old painting shows St Paul's Cathedral in London... on a canal in Venice. It's a "capriccio" — an art genre where painters simply made up impossible architectural fantasies. And they're some of the most interesting paintings you'll ever see...
POSTAVY COMEBACKU A JAK BY REAGOVALY NA MOMENTÁLNÍ SITUACI NA BLÍZKÉM VÝCHODĚ: a thread 🧵 Tomáš: “Ja o te situaci nevím dost, nestojím ani na jedné straně”
Part 2 of 'American discovers high-speed trains'
Got the TGV from Paris to Marseille. Holy fuck. High speed trains need to be everywhere. Comfortable seats, free high speed internet, space to work. I’d happily spend 8 hours here, but it only takes 3. Mad
Why we should give the world's most-hated architectural style a second chance...
„Proč si myslite, že všichni ti migranti chtějí jít do Německa a ne k nám“ pyčo to je teda naprostá záhada

Because of its historic charm, Prague 🇨🇿 is often called "Little Paris". If Prague wants to keep that title it's gonna have to follow @Anne_Hidalgo's lead and get rid of the cars.
I’m obsessed with this way of visualizing population density
Why does The Lord of the Rings trilogy still look so good? Many reasons, but here's one: Minas Tirith wasn't CGI. They built a miniature version of the whole city and filmed that. It looks realistic... because it was real. And this wasn't even the biggest model they made...
