Predominantly white (private) schools are not physically or emotionally safe for Black kids. The psychological harm that happens in those spaces is not worth the “education”. We need to rethink our ideas on a good education and expand our ideas on safety.

A lot of Black people are starting to talk about immigrants the way white people talk about Black people. Don’t

One day I hope someone asks “for real” why underrepresented minority talent is leaving academia and corporate places. These orgs are abusing folks and taking good years of professional lives if people allow it. It’s part of a strategic, oppressive plan. 1/

You deserve places and spaces and people where you can show up without armor. Let the healing begin.

Politeness culture in academia means that everyone will lament your departure after someone has treated you poorly enough that you leave, but no one will intervene in or even name the poor treatment for fear of making an abuser feel bad.

We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. Hat tip @IjeomaOparaPHD This is unbelievably beautiful and you are so inspiring. Now, how can we collectively make this an available experience at local universities across the country for more young Black students? 🧵

Twitter fam, thank you for helping me to find the family of the 9 year old girl from NJ who had the police called on her by her neighbor for collecting lantern flies. I connected with them & invited them to @yale for a Black girl led Science Tour! Yesterday—HISTORY was MADE (1/)

1/n I’ve been thinking about where we stand in the US currently with respect to COVID19 and how things might proceed until the end of the year and into Q1 2023

More pandemics are inevitable, and America's choices virtually guarantee that everything that’s happened in the past three years will happen again, @edyong209 reports. theatlantic.com/health/archive…

I wish it were more socially acceptable to say “I feel lonely & I need attention.” We shame direct requests for attention, so I think a lot people online default to adversarial positions, use activist or academic language for engagement and to make that desire feel more noble.

A growing number of Black parents are choosing homeschooling for their kids’ education. @ahylton26 shares the story.
