Oh boy, this thread, well worth a read to find out quite how low a client can go, and hopefully a big warning for others. Well done for telling the story Alex! 2 take-aways... 1. Don't work for Booklife. 2. Everyone commission Alex to do amazing work with proper budgets.

it looks like i'll have to write this thread earlier than i thought because GuESs wHo'S BaCk! this is the story of how BookLife Publishing offered me an interview for an illustration job last year, & how it all eventually went wrong. grab some popcorn, this is gonna take a while

Really interesting survey results on illustrators here. Same issues come up again around pricing and mental health, showing we could be doing more to provide advice & resources (only 66% feel supported – good, not good enough). 🖌️

The results from our survey don't mean a thing if they're not used to make changes; to highlight issues and improve the industry, to make more people into successful illustrators and provide better resources for us all.

Really cool to see what my community cares about, and what we need work on. Let's empower each other and ask for what we deserve, to not be afraid to talk about money, and a little more self care ♥️ @TheIlloSurvey @BenIllustrator theillustratorssurvey.org

I'm quoting @BenIllustrator from @TheIlloSurvey theillustratorssurvey.org/survey-results But this year the biggest issue is perhaps diversity, how can we bring more people into the industry to build their own sustainable careers, without a university education or financial support?

The Illustrators Survey Reposted

... see more people open up on this in the coming years. I know I get asked about pricing more than anything else by far by new photographers.

I listened to the @WVFRM podcast the other day with @saradietschy and she talks about how creators today are much more open with their creative process than they were a few years ago. Pricing and income is still kept a tightly guarded mystery by most though, would be good to..
