Useful meeting with @USSU discussing concerns of students in #Brighton. Student poverty is hitting hard and recent Govt announcements like 50 per cent bus fare rise, tuition fees increase and exclusion of students in Renters' Rights Bill won't help. Lots to work on together ✊

Such a treat to see behind the scenes at @TheatreRoyalBTN - thanks to Sophie and team for showing me round! So much history in this building and really exciting to see the stage set up for the recent run of 1984!

Was amazing to catch up with these brilliant campaigners today at Downing Street 💚👏📣

BREAKING 🚨: We’re outside Downing St ahead of #Budget24 calling for taxes on extreme wealth. Because we can’t afford tweaks to the economic status quo. We need a government that delivers solutions at the scale of the crises we face.

I wrote to @brightonhovecc in August to support @ACORN_Brighton's excellent Boot the Bailiff campaign. Good to see the council responding positively, and hope the review promised leads to positive change

The @brightonargus have covered our bailiffs win! Keziah, chair of @ACORN_Brighton, said: “We're delighted that the council has made this long-overdue change. This'll have a massive impact on the lives of struggling people across the city, and shows ACORN’s strength in numbers.”

Not happy with making people choose between heating and eating, Labour adds daily travel? A fifty per cent fare hike will be a burden many can’t take. Buses get low paid people to work, students to college, parents to shops, and are accessible to everyone who can’t afford a car.

Bus fare cap will be raised to £3, says Starmer in pre-budget speech – UK politics live theguardian.com/politics/live/…

Unthinkable this review won't even consider bringing water back into public hands Privatisation is, and always will be, the problem Meanwhile @SouthernWater seeks to raise my constituents' bills by 84% to pay for its lack of investment. Outrageous.

Perfectly common sense policy that follows France. It’s time to save Britain’s bees!

Brighton Pavilion MP @sianberry has just introduced a bill in parliament, that would ban local councils and other public authorities from using pesticides in villages, towns and cities. This is a huge step forward! We hope to see cross-party support for the bill.

The Govt has a choice ahead of the budget. Taking from pensioners and those in need of benefits, or... Taxing the richest fairly to raise £billions All four @TheGreenParty MPs have signed this @GNDRising letter theguardian.com/politics/2024/…

Was great to be part of this lobby (and beach clean!) in Brighton last weekend. Climate action needs a louder voice than ever!

This weekend, Climate Voters across the country met with their new MPs to share their concerns about climate and nature. We're keeping the pressure on the new government to bring climate solutions! #MeetYourMP #CommonGrounds

“On Gaza, Labour has failed to recognise a Palestinian state, publish the legal advice on arms sales as they asked the Conservatives to do, or end all such trade to Israel, despite what many believe is mounting evidence of genocide” 👏 ⁦@carla_denyer metro.co.uk/2024/10/14/pub…

Southern Water: polluting for more than 300,000 hours while handing out billions in dividends. Meanwhile 27 per cent of our bills service its debts. Water must be put in public hands away from profit. Join @We_OwnIt and take action today:

In an emergency like this we need new social housing that we simply buy, new social housing converted from empty buildings, and new social housing we build too. Real investment in all these things from the Government, right now, including loads in what bears fruit most quickly.

Yet another homelessness record broken: huge rise in families trapped in temporary accommodation. We all know the answer. The government definitely knows. It’s all about creating political will to #BuildSocialHousing and only public pressure can do that mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…
