Space to make mistakes by teachers is just as important as space to make mistakes for students #TU253reads #IfWeRanASchool

A5: I need more courage, self-confidence and the ability to determine when it is better to take a risk and miss rather than do nothing. That space to make mistakes, learn from them and be guided by colleagues #TU253reads

Thanks for joining us tonight as we talked about Laurie Halse Anderson's Shout: a poetry memoir. #TU253reads

👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 #TU253Reads

Her stories of how she spent much of school in what many would call self destructive behavior helped remind me that I am here to help students grow and to do so without judgment or righteousness but with compassion and respect. #TU253reads

Open Question: Share a quote, an idea or thought that you want to talk about and we haven't yet. Or, go back in the chat and respond to someone's idea presented in a previous questions! Remember to use the hashtag: #TU253Reads

Bonus Question Alert! Q6 What do you want to SHOUT about in education? #TU253reads

How can we build supports for educators to believe that they are safe in exploring how their actions and words affect the students in their lives and then positively want to change? #TU253reads

Her stories of how she spent much of school in what many would call self destructive behavior helped remind me that I am here to help students grow and to do so without judgment or righteousness but with compassion and respect. #TU253reads

Yes! We all want to be seen and be known! #TU253reads

We all want to be seen, to be known. Make efforts to see, to know, to remember names, interests. Celebrate & cheerlead for them. Say something if there’s something that seems off, not right. Encourage & model healthy relationships, offer resources: physical, educational, etc

Q5: As Laurie Halse Anderson begins to pull herself out of her trauma her junior year of high school, we see a number of adults respond positively to her. Except for that guidance counselor. What do educators need in order to be better advocates for our students? #TU253reads

A2: I had just read #Missoula by Jon Krakuer before this. I kept thinking that the topic of what rape, consent & toxic masculinity need to be an additional chapter in sex education for youth AND that the more it’s talked about & destigmatized the more victims will take back power

Q4: What should we learn from the shared trauma experienced by Laurie Halse Anderson and the countless others who have shared their stories with her? #TU253reads

Thanks for joining @lincolnabesread #TU253reads Second the less taboo and shame in our community and schools!

A1: My reaction? So much respect ✊ for @halseanderson so much hope that other survivors will read & feel empowered. Experiences she shares may help with prevention of possible future sexual assault victims & abusers. Less taboo & Shane for those brave enough to speak & seek help
