This is a partially self-inflicted wound. I understand the need for safety but federal laws have created so much unnecessary red tape & bureaucracy (hard to believe, right 😂). It shouldn’t take me more hours to become a bus driver than it did to renew my superintendent license!

Here’s an idea? Throw out this chart. Simplify the law: pay teachers better as proposed, provide all current state & federal funding to districts to use as they see fit, require all districts to use AEAs in year 1 to see how this works, & then let the market drive outcomes.

When the superintendent subs as a school bus driver on the afternoon before a blizzard, the kids smell blood in the water :) In their defense, I did ask for their feedback... Message received, kids! No school on Friday, January 12th.
If Iowa FB staff really wanted to support education, this doesn’t move the needle. Other ideas: Punts for para-educators Turnovers for teachers Interceptions for instructional support Drops for drivers Fumbles for food service 🤷🏼♂️
