But we also apply this lens to Western contexts, while also better accounting for differences in specialties, such as sports and business journalism, and to better understand alternative forms of journalism, such as ethnic journalism and advocacy journalism.
Being embedded in the communities they report on opens a range of opportunities and challenges for journalists. We show how the concept is key to understanding journalism in collectivist cultures found, for example, in Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands.
