I don’t wish to be so presumptuous that people wish to follow me but I like several others have made the jump to BSKY.social. Hope to see you there.

Philonthus debilis aedeagus. It’s a pointy thing! #Staphylinidae @ColSocBI

What a massive beautiful and rare veteran Field Maple. Nottinghamshire.

Haliplus mucronatus, a rather attractive haliplid and a bit of a beast compared to other UK species. Gwent Levels. ⁦@ColSocBI

I know where everything is🤔

Ilybius fuliginosus, be it puddle, pond, lake margin, stream or river, this little beast finds its way into the net. Probably the most catholic in terms of habitat of all UK water beetles. Oh, and it’s a bit of a looker as well with its beautiful bicoloured elytra. @ColSocBI

You’ve got to love a Platystethus cornutus. Pretty common but a quality Staph all the same. @ColSocBI #Staphylinidae

Trilobite! Larvae of Silpha tristis, Nottinghamshire farmland. ⁦@ColSocBI

Metoecus paradoxus. Mid-October, a little late in the season but not unheard of. ⁦@ColSocBI⁩ North-east Derbyshire garden.

Very common but very nice, the golden hairs on the inside femur and tibia really glow on the riffle beetle Limnius volckmari. @ColSocBI #Elmidae

Metoecus paradoxus, North-east Derbyshire garden, this morning. Garden usually has three wasps nests, this year only one nest so pleasantly surprised to see this beetle this year. @ColSocBI

Orectochilus villosus, the Hairy Whirligig, from my last survey of 2024. Midlands river. ⁦@ColSocBI

Colletes hederae out and about yesterday, Not a lot of Ivy flower around most having gone well past its best here in Nottinghamshire. #Bee #Hymenoptera

Tricky pair of Zopheridae, very subtle differences difficult to describe for comparison. On the left Synchita variegata, on the right Synchita undata. If it’s on Beech good bet it’s variegata, on Sycamore undata. @ColSocBI #Saproxylic #Coleoptera #Zopheridae

A rather cold Viviparous Lizard, north Notts heathland earlier today.

Digital Rod Licence has meant the extinction of one of life’s small pleasures, the artwork of David Miller no longer in my wallet. #fishing #Angling

Proper birders out there. Is it unusual to still see swallows feeding young in their nest in the last week of September? Noticed this today in South Yorkshire.

Man in his sixties with big Perch.

I’ve been particularly unobservant for several decades and only just noticed this rather large spine on the rear tibia of a relatively common beetle. Give yourself a pat on the back if you can name it! @ColSocBI

Comma imbibing dead Vole juice! North-east Derbyshire garden.
