UPDATE 10:38 a.m. The phone outage affecting 9-1-1 calls into the BCSO Dispatch Center has been fixed. Our 9-1-1 lines and our non-emergency line, (530) 538-7322 are working again.

I love this story because it reminds me that one person can make a difference. In 1979, Jadav Payeng began planting a tree every day for 37 years — results are stunning



My friend and mentor, Carmen Ramirez, died yesterday after being struck by a vehicle in Ventura. She was a passionate advocate and the first Latina to be elected to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. I adored Carmen and cherished her wisdom and advice. We lost a champion.
