Six years in the making... Mussa is the mother of all exchange rate puzzles, as it requires explaining empirical co-movements across exchange rate regimes, not just under floats, presenting the real challenge for any theory of exchange rates

Mussa puzzle, often viewed as key evidence for monetary non-neutrality, is not due to sticky prices, but due to non-neutrality arising from segmented financial markets resulting in macroeconomic transmission via the risk premium channel @itskhoki @MukhinDA econometricsociety.org/publications/e…

A sudden stimulus policy announcement on September 26, 2024, coming out of a CCP politburo meeting , led to a frantic tally in Chinese stock market. The rally stalled on the second trading day after the “Golden week” National Day holiday. How should we interpret these? 1/n

I stand with Chinese people. The retirement age in 1950s didn’t make sense, still doubtful for today. There is a rumor online saying that retirement age is raised by 3 years because China’s zero Covid policy lasted for 3 years and the government move the costs to their people.

As reported, China will gradually raise it social security eligibility age, from 60 to 63 for men, from 55 to 58 for white collar females and from 50 to 55 for blue collar females. It will be phased-in in 15 yrs from Jan 2025. 1/n bbc.com/news/articles/…

If my budget allowed, I must go! 🙂

We've been losing a lot of good ones lately. I didn't know Paul well, but you didn't have to spend a lot of time with him to enjoy his wit and intellect. And to know this is a serious loss.

We’re deeply saddened to share that our dear colleague and friend, Professor Paul Klein, passed away on August 19. A brilliant macroeconomist and a kind soul with a sharp wit, Paul will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with all who knew him. bit.ly/46ZiYhe
