Today marks Arthur Miller’s birthday. “For a salesman, there is no rock bottom to the life. He don’t put a bolt to the nut, he don’t tell you the law or give you medicine. He’s a man out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine.” — “Death of a Salesman”

A big fan of Anne Sexton. I look forward to seeing your book.

Today is the 50th anniversary of Anne Sexton’s death. Sexton changed American poetry. She wrote about women’s lives, desires, and bodies when it was deeply taboo to do so. Her poetry opened the door for so many—including Sylvia Plath. I feel privileged to write her biography.

The first book I read was No One Here Gets Out Alive, Jerry Hopkins's and Danny Sugarman's biography of Jim Morrison. I was eighteen years old. Like a main power switch, I was turned “on” and awakened. Read the rest of my story: stirringthestrange.com/blog

9/11 is William Sydney Porter's (aka O. Henry) birthday. This year, I went to his grave at Riverside Cemetery in Asheville, NC. Thanks to his stories I'm inspired by his irony and comic short stories. (That's my blue pen token :)
