Grading the NFL's starting quarterbacks at mid-season, each team's leader in games started included. A rather easy Rookie of the Year pick for the Commanders.
It's #likely wide receivers with big shoe sizes will get a bit of a downgrade in next year's draft projections.
#Lance is only 24, believe it or not. He needs the work. He had only 318 pass attempts in college (Division II) with 1 pick. Going into today, he had 154 career exhibition pass attempts (2 picks) and 102 regular season attempts (3 picks). Tonight: 33-for-49 with the five picks.
Poor #TreyLance. The Cowboys are trying to see if they have anything, or showcase him for a trade. He has played just about the entire preseason. He threw five picks tonight and fumbled twice. This doubles his career preseason/season totals in each category.
Bennett started for the Rams because Stafford hardly ever plays a preseason down and Garoppolo ingested things they test for in the NFL and is suspended. Bennett threw four interceptions, then led the Rams on a last-second drive, tossing the winning TD pass with seconds to go.
Stetson Bennett's path is an interesting one. Signed with Georgia, left when Justin Fields earned the starting role, came back a year later, eventually won a national championship. Drafted in the fourth round, missed all of last year with an NFI. Then yesterday...
The kickoff looks a little like an organized interception return. One strategy I'd consider is training a position backup on your team to kick the ball to the 10 somewhat reliably. Last thing you need is an injured kicker. Return teams are going to want to get to the sideline.
The new #NFLKickoff sure looks like something designed by committee, but I kinda like it. Really seems to add something that's been missing for a long time while addressing the serious injury issue. I sure won't be able to model it in FOF for at least a season, though.
At this point, teams have gone 136 picks without selecting a quarterback (longer than any gap since the league went to a seven-round draft). Back in 1983, when six first-round QBs were selected as well (ending with Dan Marino), they went 135 picks before another was chosen.
Apologies for typos... Elon now wants $ if you want to edit tweetxs. Mac Jones, not Max.
(1/6) Since 1983 was the last time six QBs went in the first round, it's distant history. But three went on to reach the Hall of Fame. Years with five quarterbacks selected in the first round, including career records:
(2/6) Long story short, odds are decent that only one or two of these quarterbacks will pan out. Especially since the primary reason this happened may be that the 2025 quarterback class looks thin.
(3/6) 1999: Tim Couch, 1st, 21-36; Donovan McNabb, 2nd, 105-69-1; Akili Smith, 3rd, 2-13; Daunte Culpepper, 11th, 44-59; Cade McNown, 12th, 3-11.
(4/6) 2011: Cam Newton, 1st, 78-73-1; Jake Locker, 8th, 9-13; Blaine Gabbert, 10th, 14-35; Christian Ponder, 12th, 12-21-1; Terrelle Pryor, Supplemental 1st-rounder, 3-7.
(5/6) 2018: Baker Mayfield, 1st, 44-48; Sam Darnold, 3rd, 21-35; Josh Allen, 7th, 68-33; Josh Rosen, 10th, 3-13; Lamar Jackson, 32nd, 59-23.
(6/6) 2021: Trevor Lawrence, 1st, 21-29-1; Zach Wilson, 2nd, 13-21; Trey Lance, 3rd, 2-3; Justin Fields, 11th, 10-27; Max Jones, 15th, 18-24.
Seeing Justin Fields go for a sixth-rounder illustrates the huge difference in value between a quarterback who can start and a quarterback who you only want to see in case of emergency.
Alex Smith claimed that Tom Brady's record is tainted because New England's opposition in the AFC East was weak. It was. The difference should amount to about 3-4 of Brady's 81 in-division wins during that stretch. Smith would know. He played the first half of his career in SF.
store.steampowered.com/app/2633170/Fr… Front Office Football Nine, the ninth full version of our professional football game, was just released.
Good and bad news for football fans. The good news is that the NFL just kicked off the 2023 season. The bad is the "I'm still young enough..." day just changed for the first time in years. Last year, the oldest player in the league was born in 1977. This year, it's May 19, 1984.
