Being a writer is just being sad all the time until your bookshelf falls over on top of you and someone from the elevator in the hallway calls out, "Oh, you're a writer? Me too! I just self-published my memoir on Amazon." And then you die.
It's weird that no one cares about the emotional and intellectual impact of AI on instructor and teachers. And if someone speaks up about it, they're blamed for not being creative enough in their assignment design. It's damaging to the soul to read 1000s of pages of AI writing.
And it is true personally that the only people who have told me face to face that my enjoyment of complex literature is because of my "privileged background" have been people from backgrounds far more privileged than mine.
Cristalle Smith's searing debut uses poetry and lyric language to sort truama into a meaning - experimental, innovative, and stark. Reviewed at AlbertaViews: ow.ly/76ho50U0HTV
Reviewed at AlbertaViews. Cristalle Smith's searing debut is a brave and startling assemblage of admissions of abuse, neglect, recklessness and rejuvenation. Read: ow.ly/Qk6i50U0HEi #poetry #calgaryauthor #readab
ChatGPT is not making students more confident in developing ideas and sharing these ideas. I don’t want stable, neutral, fine, polished ideas. I want a god damn idea mess of messy ideas of the highest level. We are thinking. It is messy. We are human. We are messy.
Check out these amazing titles. Including me!

How come so many academics think creative writing is not a part of academia? Why does everyone think we are idiots? Is it cus we are too emo? Like what gives?
Story of my life.
It’s insane that educational institutions are rushing to “integrate” AI even as there is no solution in sight to ChatGPT’s hallucination problem, and the only useful task LLMs seem to reliably perform is helping students cheat on low-level assignments. We are ruled by imbeciles.
Cristalle Smith, MFA but you can call me Dr. Poetry in 5 months.
the only thing more embarrassing than having an mfa is being embarrassed of your mfa. and the only thing more embarrassing than being embarrassed of your mfa is being proud of your mfa

If I could only read two things for the rest of my life it'd be Norman Maclean's A River Runs Through It and Robert Lowell's "Skunk Hour."
I wanna start a LiveJournal again. Go full circle. All the way back.
I’ve posted so much about gender biases in evals (co-related to the persistent gender pay gap at colleges), so I won’t add anything, will just drop this here.
Study (N=200 courses) tested 3 interventions to reduce gender bias in student evals, but none were effective. "Women who were tough graders or taught large classes received more criticism than men with the same grading style or class size." @kimelsesser forbes.com/sites/kimelses…
