Pushed myself to failure. My body hurts. 😆

Starting off the weekend by rewatching #Anora.

#Nosferatu conjures a frightening Gothic horror nightmare overflowing with dark romanticism. Lily-Rose Depp is a commanding presence & Nicholas Hoult is stellar. Jarin Blaschke’s use of shadows is exceptional. Robert Eggers did it again — another stylish house of terrors.

Tonight’s screening is #Nosferatu.

#Queer/#QueerMovie: Ethereal, sultry, & melancholic. The first hour is utterly spellbinding before transitioning into a less engaging surrealist dream. Daniel Craig is at the top of his game in this tale of unrequited love, male ego, aging, & loneliness.

#LookBack is softhearted and succinct (perhaps overly so), exploring artistic process & collaboration in nuanced ways. The third act treads into an unfortunate trope, but the overall story is quite touching. Distinct, textured animation.

#ARealPain dwells in the inherent awkwardness of sadness with quite the impact. A little grating? Sure. But, it’s a part of an ultimately tender and nuanced message. Kieran Culkin is the beating heart of it all & Jesse Eisenberg’s filmmaking is concise and spirited.

#EmiliaPérez is a frenetic soap opera with partially-composed stereotypes posing as characters. Bold and daring in its approach but ultimately shallow. Zoe Saldaña owns every moment she’s on the screen. I just wish there was more to cling to. It all feels so fleeting.

SUPER/MAN: #TheChristopherReeveStory works brilliantly in its non-linear structure, depicting profound pathos in the vulnerability and invincibility. Tugs on the heartstrings with the strength of the Man of Steel himself. Inspirational & impactful.

#TheColorsWithin is a sweet coming-of-age story with some of the warmest, most beautiful animation. The “seeing colors” bit isn’t fully utilized and the emotional core is downplayed. But, that’s certainly one killer final performance sequence.

A neighbor is watching BLACK CHRISTMAS at such a loud volume, you can hear it from the street. Honestly, I respect it.

#HereticMovie has a stronger buildup than payoff, but this twisty psychological game is a great deal of fun. Hugh Grant sells every ounce of theological horror and comedy to perfection. An underwhelming third act in an otherwise thrilling picture.
