“NATO expansion did not cause Putin’s regime to jail or murder journalists…seize and manipulate domestic media..or conflate the country’s survival with his personal rule, any more than a defensive alliance of mostly pacifist nations…threatened the security of Russia.” TLS 11/3
What the appointment of Pete Hegseth says about Trump’s vision of defence and US engagement overseas. Good article by @Independent’s #TazAli . inews.co.uk/news/world/tru…
What is the latest on the situation in Ukraine? Is the US shutting their embassy a sign of things to come? Here's former Chief of the General Staff General lord Richard Dannatt #KayBurley SS
For my British and European friends who are "shocked" and "surprised", here are 10 reasons you didn't see this coming. Read this short post and then read the replies from our American friends who will confirm what I'm saying. 1. Americans love their country and want it to be…

What kind of response should we expect from Russia? We saw last week a Russian spy ship sailing up the Irish Sea. No good reason for them to be there except looking for opportunities to cause trouble. @SimonLeoDiggins
Interesting and challenging article by #MathewSyed. Please read. Scapegoating the US could be the final act of Europe’s delusional elite thetimes.com/article/b7e711…
Fascinating article: history, archaeology, and raw geopolitics in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Highly recommended. telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/11/0…
13/ Of course, there is a difference between EU and Europe, but countries such as the UK are going to have to get over that. The good news is that bilateral or multilateral European organisations already exist (e.g. JEF) which can plug and play or provide a framework. ENDS
I’m not into America-brained punditry but the US election poses questions of our government. 1. Trump has made clear America will not subsidise European defence any longer. The Govt has refused to put a timeline on an increase in defence spending. What’s it’s plan? (1/n).
Well, still a few states to call, but the consensus is that Trump has won. And this, as I will lay out, is the worst news to wake up to for Keir Starmer. No, not the "it'll be tough making up with Trump, tough keeping the Special Relationship going"...
Not according to both DEFRA and the NFU; the latter, based on DEFRA’s figures, say 72% of farms will be affected. See: amp.theguardian.com/environment/20…
For those who were asleep at the back: - the overwhelming majority of farmers will be unaffected by the proposed changes to Inheritance Tax - those complaining about it are the multi-millionaires who saw investing in farmland as an excellent tax avoidance measure.
#2 Sunday Defence Review 💥Defence announcements in the budget. 💥US Election: What does it mean for Ukraine & NATO? 💥North Korean troops fighting for Russia. @PhilipIngMBE, @CormacS63 & @SimonLeoDiggins
It never takes much for Labour’s mask to slip. Dawn Butler is not alone on the Government benches in holding this view of Kemi. This will be a test to see whether Keir Starmer removes the whip, or effectively condones Butler’s abhorrent approval of this smear?
Insightful lecture by Professor Lawrence Freedman @LawDavF Ukraine: What Next? open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/ukr…
Just horrendous. Totally feel for our people who gave so much to try to make it better.
