Thanks for setting the record straight @BCarneyAlmroth 🙏

Ecotoxicology expert @BCarneyAlmroth w/ the Scientists’ Coalition For An Effective #PlasticsTreaty exposed how the industry's tactics–including misinformation, cherry-picking data, & harassment of scientists–aim to hinder policy action to address plastic pollution.

1/5 🙌 Reflecting on our time at #INC4, it’s clear that our Coalition has come a long way. Starting with just five scientists at INC-1 in Uruguay, we have grown to more than 350 worldwide with 60 joining this past week in #Ottawa.

The tension is growing: What will the last #INC4 plenary bring? Will there be a mandate for intersessional work? What on? Primary #plastic polymers? Chemical composition of plastics & safety criteria with a view to eliminating hazardous chemicals? Transparency? ⁦@martiwag

Here we go. The final plenary of #INC4 is underway. We must stay strong. And keep all fingers and toes crossed, just in case. 🤞🏼 #PlasticsTreaty @ScientistsCoa

This sends a strong message to negotiators at #INC4 for a strong #PlasticsTreaty as the final plenary is approaching: "The #G7 is committed to reducing the overall production of primary polymers in order to put an end to plastic pollution in 2040.“#plastic france24.com/en/live-news/2…

#PlasticsTreaty It’s extremely worrying to hear about intimidation and harassment of scientists by industry at #INC4. The #right2science requires protection for scientists. There should be zero tolerance for industry misconduct.

Plastic packaging contains 1,000s of potentially harmful chemicals and also doesn’t necessarily reduce food waste. We need new #sustainable solutions for food preservation. #INC4 #PlasticsTreaty @ScientistsCoa @MelanieBergma18 theguardian.com/environment/20…

This is backed by science as outlined in our article. Don't forget: Polar Regions are considered early-warning systems, where we sample to assess planetary background pollution. 🚨Yet we record VERY high #microplastic levels in Arctic sediment & sea ice! doi.org/10.1038/s43017…

Beyond proud of #teamfijj and how they have been holding the low ambition countries to account at INC-4. We came here for a purpose, and we know that a job half-done is a job not done. We know that time is against us and we are doing our best to rep our people! @brkfreeplastic

1/5 💰 Calculations show that the costs of #plastics on our #health are significant. 👉 A recent study estimated $249 billion in plastic-attributable disease burden in the United States alone in the year 2018. These total costs account for 1.2% of the country's GDP.
