And that’s a wrap for Day 4 of the 31st Special Session. Both Assembly and Senate have adjourned until 10 AM on Monday. No votes cast, but plenty of public comment on AB 1 & 2.
Senate has adjourned until Monday to continue the 31st Special Session. Assembly is still in session right now, hearing public comment on AB 2. None of the proposed bills have been voted on yet.
Public comment has wrapped up on AB 1, the bill that would furlough state workers. The vast majority - if not all - of public comments were against AB 1. Most were state workers saying they can’t afford another round of cuts...especially after enduring the 2008 recession.
As the bill is currently written, employees cannot opt to take more unpaid furlough hours to soften the financial burden on other employees or the State of Nevada. Also, exempt employees under this bill will still be subject to a 4.6% salary reduction.
Day 4 of the Special Session continues today as legislators review AB 1, which will require 96 hours of unpaid furlough for most state employees. Each year that can amount to more than a $1,000-$1500 in lost wages for state employees.

The #PoevilleFire is at 3,000 acres right now and is about 30% contained. While hundreds were evacuated yesterday, many of them were able to return to their homes today. But @TMFPD warns if the wind flares up and the fire grows, we could see more evacuations.
Hundreds of people were evacuated in the North Valleys area because of the #PoevilleFire. Today many of them returned to their homes. I caught up with a few of them on their traumatic experiences escaping the blaze and why evacuations may not be over just yet:
