Flannery O’Connor had a special devotion to the Archangel St. Raphael. She said this prayer daily-“Raphael, lead us toward those we are waiting for, those who are waiting for us: Raphael, Angel of happy meetings, lead us by the hand toward those we are looking for...” #Flannery

Father Brian Strassburger, a newly ordained Jesuit priest, got his first assignment on the border a few months after Biden took office. I wrote about the change he’s seen in the last three years, as he’s moved shelter to shelter, tent camp to tent camp. newyorker.com/news/dispatch/…

I can attest: if anyone is unhappy with us and wants to come work in Belize, please come. We need all the help we can get.

To certain “trad” Catholics who write off entire orders as “bad”: Oh, you don’t like Jesuits? YOU go run three parishes and a school in Belize (or some such)! Oh, you think Franciscans have gone soft? YOU hear confessions for hours daily at the heart of big cities.

Not gonna write about the Vatican's gender doc...but you can read my thoughts on surgeries and cross-identifying in my review of @markyarhouse's book in @cworldreport catholicworldreport.com/2020/08/07/the…

the fact that people can't understand how the Pope can both condemn bottom surgeries AND say trans peeps can be baptized demonstrates how we have lost the capacity for nuanced thought and have become blinded by simplistic, dualistic thinking

We began streaming Mass during the pandemic & I recall visiting a young woman dying of cancer who was watching Mass as I entered the house. She was in tears expressing gratitude for the ability to worship w her parish during her illness. So that's a reason why we keep doing it

Streaming the Eucharist online for the world to watch or broadcasting it on television is an abomination, writes Jesuit @ThomasReeseSJ It is akin to showing video of people eating a meal to people who are starving. bit.ly/3xhK05K
