In my experience, health care providers are often among the most significant #accessibility offenders. Many reasons why, but I think a big one is that their baseline view of disability is as a medical rather than a social or service matter.

Good thread

The lesson shouldn't be that the Nazi's burning of Hirschfeld's institute was an aberration. The lesson should be that cis people have denied and erased the existence of trans people for a very long time and *also* use that erasure and denial as evidence we didn't always exist.

We talk about how the Nazis burned the books at the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft and destroyed a lot of trans history, but we do not nearly often enough talk about how often archeologists, anthropologists, and historians actively erase and deny the our existence in the past.

Here's a hefty pile of acephobia for you: My friend recently submitted a scientific article about acephobic stereotypes to an academic journal. It was rejected because the reviewer said, and I shit you not, that these are not stereotypes but accurate assessments of ace people.

Good fucking thread!!

I can't wear a pink hat or pins supporting reproductive autonomy at work. But what I can do is guarantee that if you show up at my ED, you will get my best and the best of my teammates in our endeavors to provide care that's based on evidence...not political bullshit 6/8

The entrenched myth that pregnancy and birth is safe, easy, routine, “natural”, or no-big-deal and without immediate or long term serious consequences to the person carrying that pregnancy has played a significant role in getting us to this point.
