The dominant narrative of the He Gets Us campaign shows there is no message that will not be consumed by the Widening Gyre. God help us. epsilontheory.com/they-fought-th…
Business idea: AirBnB but with a franchise model instead of an open market place. Governance and guidelines would solve major issues for both hosts and guests, which could justify the extra expenses.
I'm starting to think that organized looting may represent a deeper ambition to make a political statement against capitalism and "the system." Sharing some reactions to my thread on boarded up SF below. (A 🧵, 1/x)

"If one group of speculators wants to have a battle of wills with another group of speculators over an individual stock, God bless them... if they make money, fine. And if they lose money, that’s on them. " -Neel Kashkari, Minneapolis Fed President
A few weeks ago I said that foreign governments saw risk of deplatforming by US tech companies. Today that risk isn’t even theoretical! Google just flipped a switch that censored French & German government users conducting official business. Nations will ban Google in return.
Not just business: @element_hq is used by the French and German governments. This is a slippery slope to censorship but also one that will lock in a number of US messaging systems which will further encourage a walled garden internet as even Western govts seek sovereign solutions
One of the most interesting essays I've read this year. Not surprisingly, since cperciva is one of the smartest people I know. (Once again, HN plays its traditional role of supplying the inspiringly mistaken opinion.) daemonology.net/blog/2020-09-2…
Amazon launched in July 1995, and every Xmas was a near death experience for the first 7 years. I joined in ‘99 and got to experience this first hand. Starting in late Nov, all corporate employees were shipped to fulfillment centers to pack boxes for 6 weeks. Here’s what I saw:
Is the US education system more on par with France or Uzbekistan? A thread on how 'social indexes' are calculated and why you should be cautious about using them. And how things that are obviously, glaringly wrong can be fact-checked true by the New York Times.

Dems are using Covid to create a bullshit mail-in ballot narrative to increase turnout from marginally involved voters. Trump is using fraud to create an even worse bullshit mail-in ballot narrative to limit voter turnout from marginally involved voters. epsilontheory.com/the-fujiwhara-…
In 2002 I was working in Amazon’s retail division. We were organized by department - books, CDs, electronics, etc - and a separate dept for products sold by 3rd parties. Then Bezos decided 3rd party should appear next to 1st party on the same product page. Here’s what happened:

I’ve been a Democrat for 20 years, but I attended Trump’s rally in NH last night and thought it was really important to share my experience: bit.ly/2SA7Q4O TLDR: Both sides see each other exactly the same way. We have got to stop viewing each other as the enemy.
