Great that LSE has adopted an OA publications policy (2025) that will enable LSE researchers to use their own peer reviewed research outputs (papers etc) as they choose @LSELibrary Frustrating that author choice is still not the universal publishing norm. info.lse.ac.uk/staff/services…
Public libraries are vital to our social fabric. Places to learn & enjoy leisure. Also they: - are places to meet - benefit from connectivity, physically & digitally - invite us to engage in our communities. Without this social infrastructure neighbourhoods are left behind.

Open letter from a group of sleuths re problems with editors/papers at Scientific Reports deevybee.blogspot.com/2024/10/an-ope… They've published 23K papers in 2024 with APC of £2090, raising £48 million from this journal alone, so should be able to put resource into cleaning this up.
Yes, yes, and thrice yes!

Academic publishing is not a service industry but a product industry. For commercial publishers, this is especially the case. The purpose of copyright is to assert "ownership" of the product (article, book) & then "sell" that to libraries. It's not a fucking service industry.
