This! I've had judges tell me I've done something wrong & explained exactly how I could do it better, while they were judging me. It was so hurtful and insensitive, and the con did nothing when I brought it to their attention. Judges need to be held accountable for how they act.
I strongly believe that cosplay judges need to be adept at holding positive, safer and affirming space for contestants. Like… it’s not enough just to know your craft. Contestants should have a good experience and that comes w/ respectful facilitation of the experience by judges.

respectfully, cosplayers need to grow a backbone when money enters the picture bc you bring a lot of value to these shows even if it's not an immediately obvious effect forget about "i wanna be nice," you need to be taken care of and eat at the end of the day
i'm gonna chime in with my own experience as a guest: if you're making more money at your day job for a whole weekend, and a con is offering you less than that, it's simply not worth going in the red financially unless you have other incentives to attend like networking and such
You are WORKING. You deserve to be compensated for your time. You don't show up to any other job, where your boss expects to not pay a dime towards hrs of ur labor. Please, guys we have to stop letting cons littlerally "con" us & get away with taking advantage of creators. 🙏
