It is shame that many school districts does not want deaf children to learn in the signing environment for their convenience at expense of deaf children's language development.

When kids at risk of language deprivation got to school early, across the board their academic achievement scores* were the same as those not at risk (i.e., those who were born into a bilingual environment because they had deaf families).

This book is intriguing to check out - I anticipated to connect some of the reading in a personal level.

A year after the MobileDeaf closing conference, we reached our final milestone: our book is out! You can download it for free as it is open access, or you can order it hardcover ($90) or paperback ($50). gupress.gallaudet.edu/Books/D/Deaf-M… Below, a thread on why this book is special!

Tonight I learned that apparently some people in my region are criticizing my program for being “too deaf” and I don’t even know what to say to that. It’s a Deaf Ed program, my friend. Calling it too deaf seems like a compliment.

Yes, sign languages are beautiful but did you know hearing parents are told not to sign with their deaf children by hearing professionals and have to fork out thousands of £ of their own money to learn to sign and to talk to their own kids? #SignLanguageWeek
