7th grade math students were practicing proportionality this week! Students took a candy wrapper and used a scale factor of 2.5 to make a scaled drawing of the original wrapper. They did an amazing job!!
SMS mentors has been working with our students all year long. Today they gathered for an end of year celebration. Thank you Iglesia Filadelfia Central for sponsoring their lunch and a great thank you to Eddie Menjivar for his time and dedication to these students all year long!
We honored our retirees for this year: Priscilla Young, resource ELAR, Kathy Cherry, librarian, and Brenda Tonelli, librarian assistant, at a celebration of their years of service to our students. SMS will not be the same without them but we wish them happy retirement!

The SISD Percussion students combined on Friday night to participate in the annual Percussion Concert at Sherman HS. The beginning percussion students performed in drum pad and mallet. The adv students debuted a new percussion ensemble written by our very own Dr. Veit.
The SMS Beginning Band Classes have begun meeting together to prepare for their full band concert on May 20th at 6pm. This will be their first performance as a full band. They are learning how to combine the sounds of the different instruments so they can work together.
This year, community members, including parents, teachers, and other SISD staff members, celebrated people who had made an impact on them this year through the SMILE Award nomination. Congratulations to our staff members who received this recognition!
Some of our staff members were honored yesterday at our faculty meeting for their years of service. Congrats and thank you to them for their hard work and dedication!
Congratulations to Patti Bono, our behavior teacher, for being named Teacher of the Month for April! She does a great job helping our students and teaching them important skills for life and learning.
Congratulations to our April Staff Member of the Month, Victoria Elliott. Victoria is the behavior specialist at SMS and does a great job assisting teachers and helping students manage their behavior. Congrats!
