Very lazy reporting here, presenting the choice as either the exploitative status quo or mass deportations. No discussion of labor rights; shrugging off the question of wages. More than 4 times the airtime given to growers rather than actual immigrant farm worker voices.

.@MarthaRaddatz traveled to California, where many farmers rely on undocumented workers, to discuss concerns around Donald Trump’s plans for mass deportations. “We can't afford a labor shortage … Not only will food be less available, it'll be more expensive,” one farmer says.

NYT article doesn’t consider the obvious possibility that Dems moving right on immigration not only didn’t “neutralize” the issue but instead backfired by lending legitimacy to Trump’s nativism. So many reporters can’t think outside of ideological premises of politics they cover.

This year I began thinking about what is to be done in times of political hopelessness. Sympathy for migrants was at an all-time low; Americans wanted a crackdown. So it surprised me when I met a man at a migrant shelter unaffected by pessimism. 1/3 newyorker.com/news/dispatch/…

Analysis by @KeeangaYamahtta puts in right context, esp. Dem party strategy, yesterday's results & voting by "racial" groups. It explains how social class matters & why neglecting economic insecurities was a major fail. So avoid blaming Latinos, as a "group," for the outcome.

“The Democratic Party really underestimated the extent to which lots of people in this country are in crisis.” Watch @KeeangaYamahtta and others in our expanded two-hour broadcast, live at democracynow.org.

It’s terribly timely unfortunately. All seven episodes now out. The last 2 take you to the current moment in immigration and the role of sanctuary communities.

✨✨ Latino is an unstable and incoherent political category✨✨ 🤪

Democrats’ recriminations might miss the hardest truth, which is that they’re losing Latinos because they’ve materially failed them. I saw it in Reading, PA. Factories go overseas after Clinton signs NAFTA. It gets even worse under Obama. Then Biden… politico.com/news/magazine/…

We don't know what the next few days will bring but as @ElProfeBarba and I note in the final episode of SANCTUARY, the US will have to grapple with a decades worth of dehumanizing policies soon. Tune in to learn what the tradition of sanctuary can offer us moving forward.

SURPRISE DROP - Ep 7 is available now! A look into the Trump campaign's inhumane rhetoric on immigration - and what Trump or Harris presidencies would mean for the future of sanctuary. @ElProfeBarba @SMGonzalezWI With generous funding from @HLuceFdn redcircle.com/shows/a2b3982f…
