I’d be interested to know who is offering this expert advice on anaesthesia. “Significant” suggests either frequently occurring and/or very serious risk. I’m going to call it out for what it is: at best it’s nonsense, and at worst it’s deliberate misrepresentation.

Should there ever be the need for a support group for victims of a medical op like outpatient #hysteroscopy. Are you aware @TheBSGE @RaneeThakar @RCObsGyn @PSCommissioner there is one. @HysteroscopyA are mopping up the emotional mess you leave after OPH without #anaesthetic!

Seeing a lot of medical professionals replying to posts about outpatient hysteroscopy and pain. Some are compassionate. Far too many have been defensive and have denied that OPH is painful. #OutpatientHysteroscopy (1/7)

Let’s fix a conference on this. Please invite me or another anaesthetist; The message from my specialty will be pretty consistent! I’m not looking for extra work but I’m very happy to support such blatant poor practice in this area. It would never happen with male patients..

We believe that no patient should have to endure extreme pain or trauma when accessing essential healthcare and are calling for an independent review of hysteroscopy services in the NHS. Read more in our new blog below⬇️ pslhub.org/learn/patient-… #pslhub #patientsafety

Another #hysteroscopy patient enduring a painful procedure administered by 'lovely' people. Time for @NHSEngland to provide option of IV sedation with analgesia for hysteroscopy just as is routinely offered for colonoscopy. @RCObsGyn @staceymwilliams @TheBSGE @lynbrownmp

Doctors basically exist to deny women medical help in case a man might need their body to create offspring. Or to tell us we're overreacting to pain or blame everything on us "needing to lose a few lbs."

Appalling that #gynaecologists don't follow @RCObsGyn guidelines. Shame on you! #women experiencing severe pain without truthful information or professional guidelines followed by @bsgeacn @TVNaga01 @NHSMillion @NHSWatch @NHSEngland @morris_ep

The 2011 @RCOG @TheBSGE guidelines are out-of-date. Much #NHSEngland #hysteroscopy is now done without anaesthetic or pre-op assessment. @TheBSGE statement published by @RCOG which reminds gynaecologists to offer GA/sedation & stop if pain is severe is ignored by many Trusts.

If patients are not asked about prior sexual abuse/rape/domestic violence/birth trauma, there is also no attempt to discover who is most at risk of PTSD or other serious harm if they *do* experience moderate or severe pain.

Ask: "Are you talking hysteroscopy without anaesthestic? I've read countless reports by women subjected to this barbaric procedure. The answer is no. I will require my surgery to be carried out under hygienic operating theatre conditions with humane anaesthetic."
