"These people found themselves on the run again, fleeing their homes again, living this trauma and this nightmare." @RulaAmin of @Refugees describes the plight of displaced Syrians who are now fleeing from war-torn #Lebanon back to Syria.
Some 510,000 people have fled the bombings in Lebanon and crossed into Syria in just 6 weeks. 68% of whom are Syrians who are returning to communities that are devastated. They need urgent assistance - but with only 6% of the inter-agency appeal funded, we are facing a…
Over 400,000 children in Lebanon have fled conflict and 60% of schools are sheltering IDPs. Against the odds, classrooms are reopening to ensure a school year is not lost, thanks to @MeheLebanon efforts assisted by UNESCO & UNICEF More support to education is urgently needed.
The number of people who have fled from Sudan since the start of the civil war in April 2023 has now reached 3 million — with many more displaced inside the country. Those fighting for supremacy in Sudan are not only destroying it — they are also emptying it of its own people.
This is the second official border crossing between Lebanon and Syria where UNHCR has been present to be targeted.
A new Israeli airstrike hit the border post of Joussieh, where many Lebanese and Syrians cross from Lebanon to Syria. Humanitarian structures were also struck. Even fleeing (and taking care of those who flee) are becoming difficult and dangerous as the war continues to spreads.

The road leading out of Baalbek is choked with cars as thousands flee ahead of anticipated Israeli bombing of the ancient city. Where will they go? They join the more than 1.2 million people displaced by Israeli bombing and mass evacuation orders.
I join @antonioguterres in calling for @UNRWA’s work in the occupied Palestinian territory to continue. Otherwise millions of Palestinians will be deprived of vital support — including education and health services — which only UNRWA has the mandate and capacity to deliver.
.@antonioguterres : There is no alternative to #UNRWA . The implementation of the laws could have devastating consequences for Palestine refugees in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, which is unacceptable. un.org/sg/en/content/…
UNHCR's @RulaAmin updates on a deepening displacement crisis in Lebanon. With relentless Israeli airstrikes even at border crossings, needs grow by the day.
UNHCR: Israel's border air strikes hindering refugees fleeing Lebanon for Syria "The attacks on the border crossings are a major concern... They are blocking the path to safety for people fleeing conflict’ @RulaAmin reuters.com/world/middle-e…
I visited this border crossing with Gonzalo two weeks ago where people fleeing the conflict in #Lebanon crossed into #Syria
Today in Tartous, Syria, I met Faridah, a mother of eight and one of the more than 200,000 Syrians who have fled the bombing in Lebanon over the past three weeks. She, like so many other returnees, urgently needs help. Inter-Agency Emergency Appeal for the Influx from Lebanon…
Today I travelled to Joussieh and Daboussieh border crossings between Lebanon and Syria. Here as well, my UNHCR colleagues are on the ground providing support to people fleeing the bombings in Lebanon and crossing to Syria.
Today we also travelled to the Joussieh border crossing. Here too, Lebanese & Syrians continue to flee the bombings in #lebanon & crossing to #Syria @refugees
At the Lebanese Syrian borders today, a stark reminder on who bears the brunt of any conflict. @Refugees #lebanon #Syria
For the Lebanese, this conflict brings back painful memories of past crises. For Palestine &Syrian refugees, it serves as a stark reminder of the devastation in their homelands. For the migrant workers left stranded, it brings uncertainty. Full Statement: tinyurl.com/3j9372pc
Tonight in Damascus I appealed for $324 million to meet the needs of all people fleeing from Lebanon to Syria and the families hosting many of them. This crisis happens at a time when millions of Syrians live in hardship. Humanitarian and early recovery aid are urgently needed.
