For #WhereinStockportWednesday this week from #StockportHeritage Library we go back to 1984. A pub and an old factory building but where are we? More memories here orlo.uk/576dv
On This Day 7th December 1984. This was the last day of the DC class 506 units that worked the Manchester - Glossop - Hatfield passenger services for 30 years. © Jampot2 / Alan Hart / ee20213
Another lost cinema from #StockportHeritage Library, the Savoy, Romiley opened in 1934. It seated 1,000 people, with a cafe and car park. In 1963 the cinema closed, spending 20 years as a bingo hall before being demolished. Housing stands on the site. #SilverScreenStockport
Great to visit and see work progressing at the signal box at #PulboroughStation. Fantastic job by @NetworkRailSE Hopefully soon to be handed over to the community group to provide a sustainable future use. @SoutheastCRP
Distant Viaduct, by Trevor Grimshaw (1947-2001). Born in Hyde, studied at Stockport College of Art, worked in advertising in Manchester. #NorthernArt
Another lost cinema from #StockportHeritage Library, the Palace, Bredbury opened in 1914. The simple wood / corrugated iron building nick-named The Barn, seated 500. It became a bingo hall in 1961, a cinema again briefly in 1971 and later a snooker hall. #SilverScreenStockport
MANCHESTER PICCADILLY: 86430 'Scottish National Orchestra' waits to head south on a cold, sunny day in early 1987. To the right of the 'new' headlight is a blanking plate fitted over the old rubber insert headlamp. Some 86/4s kept their lamp irons from their 86/0 days.
Trundling away as wires loom overhead - omens of the future - Robinson C13 67438 is shot by W. Oliver with a Glossop Branch service at Hyde Junction in 1952. In two years, Glossop would be the realm of multiple units and 67438 would leave Great Central territory for Copley Hill.
Mersey Square from the Plaza Steps #Stockport in 1960 and 2024. Then, Touchstone corner and the old Fire Station. Now, Merseyway, the old Debenhams and the new Transport Interchange. #StockportThenNow from #StockportHeritage Library. More memories orlo.uk/cxcOk

With the closure of the Woodhead route in 1981, the link line from Godley Junction to Woodley also closed, as did the line from Woodley on through Stockport to the Lymm line. Most of the route was lifted railscot.co.uk/img/91/248 #BredburyWasteTerminal #Railways #rail
The lines around Bredbury in the 1950s. Top left to bottom right is the surviving Manchester to Sheffield route, although express trains now run via Stockport. North from Romiley is the Hyde Loop, served by Rose Hill railscot.co.uk/img/91/249 #Bredbury #Railways #rail
