When we started the Saints Past Players Association more than forty years ago it was decided that to qualify a player had only to play in one first team match. I met with really great players like Ellaby, Prescott, Arkwright and Greenall etc who are all part of our great club.
It is not wise or even possible to compare players and teams across the decades.I have watched the Saints since 1952 and whilst I like James Roby very much It is quite wrong to talk about our players in the way that is done today

I heard at the week end that Jim Glover has died aged 85 (nearly 86) He played at Warrington before I was there and has made many friends chatting around Taylor Park as he drove around in his electric chair.
