Sometimes I hear “people have a choice” or “they chose drugs/alcohol over their kids.” Addiction is more often than not the result of childhood trauma and a need to self soothe or escape pain. Children don’t have a “choice” if they face any adversities growing up. ♥️

My cup is full this evening as a four week block of the wellbeing group @MOInverclyde comes to an end. It’s amazing the relationships that can form in such a short space of time if the environment is right for people to flourish. Thanks for having me! 💜

Sometimes I need to pinch myself. I feel privileged to do the work I do.

As #RecoveryMonth continues, we have been working with #CBTwithRebecca who is delivering a series of sessions focusing on wellbeing. Today's session is about sleep hygiene. These topics are all areas highlighted by those on our programme as one's they struggle with. #recovery

Walk and talk are a great way of connecting and sharing ♥️

Our 'Walk and Talk' group is back on this Monday 9th September! We will meet at 6pm across from the Old West Kirk Church on Greenock Esplanade. Are you affected by someone else’s drug/alcohol use? Please know, you are not alone! 💜

I’d appreciate a retweet please folks. Now at £20,500 for homelessness. #addiction #book #veteran #homeless

Great wee group today at @ifitinverclyde as we discussed boundaries and communication skills. We had a carry on and laughs as Michael and I acted out a couple of role play situations using passive, aggressive and assertive communication.

Each life lost, is a life too many - my heart goes out to anyone who has lost a loved one 🤍 please reach out for support, @ScotFamADrugs @SFADInverclyde are here for you & my DMs are always open if I can help in any way.

1,172 lives were lost to drug-related deaths in Scotland in 2023. These aren't just numbers; they were our loved ones. We honour their memory and stand with those grieving.

Great turn out today @ifitinverclyde . We had a psycho-educational group on trauma. We learned how it affects the brain and the long term impacts on our mental and physical health. We also touched on adverse childhood experiences. There were meaningful discussions throughout. 🫶🏼

🚨 Today @ifitinverclyde we learned about our stress response system and the window of tolerance. Everyone completed their own window of tolerance and we shared ideas to help keep us within the window, a place where we feel calm, connected and safe. 🤝

Social media is not a safe place for young people. In my opinion, it is incredibly dangerous. Big tech has been given a free pass to push out dangerous addictive inappropriate products and make billions. These companies have rewired childhood on an unimaginable scale.🧠🌱

When we struggle with fears and anxiety we may use safety behaviours or avoidance. These things give us some short term relief but they tend to leave long term issues in place. By gradual exposure exercises we can move towards our fears and over come them.

Coming along to therapy and allowing yourself to become vulnerable takes a lot of courage. There is so much strength in allowing yourself to turn up authentically. It’s in the moments of emotional vulnerability that allow the process of change and healing to begin.
