Very excited to share our overview on the pathological development of severe COVID-19 under a conservative systemic inflammation derived from COVID-19 associated lung injury (CALI) two hit model consistent with current data 👇🏾 frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

Caffeine genius - it blocks receptors that would signal tiredness. When it breaks down, you feel overtired because your body still produces tiredness molecules. Then more caffeine is required. Same as giving power to billionaires to take back the value of labor over stock market

2024 I have two papers out, two under review, grant submissions out, four invited talks (one GRC and one national!), to Immune podcast, to lecture the immunology course, and to one international collaboration. + It ain't over yet 🔥

🤣 it's so easy to be distracted with an academic life. Before I could return to my office someone grabbed me about a clog on the cytometer. When checked, a student was free to talk about an assay. When I finally got to my office it was time for a seminar 🤣

are you healed or you're just distracted?

The irony of having worked all days since the end of August and the first weekend I took off to rest I get sick. Congratulations 🎉

Judy Lieberman has 90% of her manuscripts with 2 to 3 first authors. We don't have a choice there. I just went on and gave talks at HMS and HSPH before I left to make sure people knew my contributions after she replaced me with someone with a fellowship when mine was over

Applications sent. Good luck to all places I applied. I hope you can find a brilliant candidate, exciting science, creative, productive, a true asset to the environment where they step in. And I hope it's me!

One never knows how much an academic website update is important until they're applying for positions 🤣 #AcademicChatter

I'd like to thank everyone that posts papers here on Twitter. Theirs or others. Especially thanks to @LabWaggoner! Twitter is quite trashy today and finding new papers that interest me at least still works very well!

No one: Me: it would be very cool to have a section on immunology papers entitled "how to apply this in your model". It would be much easier to find context dependent cells, like nBregs, CD8regs. Immunology is the science of context context context, after all

Discussion about retention during a conversation about leadership in academic medicine: psychological safety. If people don't feel safe to speak truth to power, align values, feel valued or welcomed, they leave.

The sheer number of grants, combining foundation, intramural and extramural that spins off results in large teams that speed up discoveries in multiple ways. Luck is predictive of past luck, and back luck is even more predictive of past bad luck.

This Nature article shows that most Nobel Prize winners are part of the same academic network. If you work with a Nobel laureate, your chances of winning the prize increase manifold. This year's Nobel Prize in medicine won by Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun follows this logic.
