On the eve of the Budget, vital new @NEF analysis by @alexdiner1987 @Sam_Tims and @RWilliamsSheff on the need for greater government investment in social homes in order to meet their housing targets, and the wider economic benefits this would bring compared to other tenures

NEW: Our analysis shows the government will need to be building 90,000 social homes a year by 2027/28 to meet it's own target to build 1.5m homes by the end of this parliament.

On average, private renters are paying more than three times as much as mortgagors for their housing. Private renters paid around £11 per square metre for their housing in 2021-22, compared to just over £3 for mortgagors (excluding principal payments).
