Well this will be unpopular... prescribed burning is pretty much the only wild-fire prevention strategy used in rural australia but it's probably not helping.... nature.com/articles/s4158…

Debating turning this off now - not sure I want to be force fed Elon Musk's views....

Seasonal movements of birds are truly massive

Hi UK, here they come! Huge start of bird migration from the Waddensea westwards. Currently an bird migration traffic rate of 9000 birds per km per hour. Enjoy 😉

I actually agree with this … was horrified as a new grad vet to realise that copper sulphate and pyrethrins ( neither of which are safe if you get the doses wrong) are ok in organic farming as they are “ natural”

Organic food is not grown without pesticides. Organic food is not healthier. Organic food is not better for the environment. Organic food can be worse ecologically - lower yield, more off-target pesticide impacts, more land use, more tillage = worse for the planet. 1/

Please fill it in if you've been affected by BTV - this is currently the only way we have to know what the impact is on farmers (it is being fed upwards as we get it)

Please continue to advise your clients to fill in the BTV-3 Impact survey which aims to collect data on the morbidity and mortality on UK holdings with a diagnosis of BTV3 since August 2024. bit.ly/3NO8SXX

The toblerone is very funny ….

We CT scanned a dozen candy bars. Can you identify all of these? I'll post the answers tomorrow!

Bloody hell, this will be as catastrophic an impact as the pandemic period for research in the UK if they go through with this - lives and careers aren't going to wait if the funding cycle stops

A thread on how health charlatism works….

So, wading through the stinking bog that is google's search results in the year of our cruel and merciless god 2024, I eventually found the website of the tech company Russtopher mentions, Airestech

This full on looks like the lockness monster (at a micro scale)

single cell trying to capture prey

Unfortunately bluetongue serotype 12 has been found in the Netherlands. 20 km to the south of the first farms where BTV-3 was observed the first time. We should find this introduction route and virus source to avoid new outbreaks of Orbiviruses! #btv #blauwtong #bluetongue

Nieuw type blauwtongvirus vastgesteld. Het serotype 12 is nog niet eerder voorgekomen in Nederland, maar heerst wel in andere landen buiten Europa. @ministerlvvn Wiersma heeft aanvullend onderzoek uitgezet om de situatie in kaart te brengen. ⤵️ rijksoverheid.nl/actueel/nieuws…

Crap… btv 12 in the Netherlands now …. We really, really need a better vaccine system …

True this…. Subsistence farming is not a lifestyle most people follow if they have a choice

Insisting on small-scale farming without pesticides or fertilizers is exactly what will condemn hundreds of millions to an eternity of peasant farming - and, inevitably, an eternity of peasant poverty.
