The Cowichan Bay Firefighters Association recently made a generous donation which will support the training of our volunteers and maintenance of our station. This donation comes directly from the members of the fire department and we would like to sincerely thank them!
Today our station continued our long standing tradition and joined the Remembrance Day ceremony in Cobble Hill. We remember those who volunteered, sacrificed, served, fought, and died, for our freedom.

On Sunday at 19:02 our station received a call out to assist BC wildfire crews in response to a brush fire that had sparked on the hillside in Gowlland Tod Provincial Park. Our role was to mobilize fire crews to the site with gear. goldstreamgazette.com/news/scariest-…

We would like to thank the Malahat Legion for their recent donation to our Station! Our volunteers are grateful for the continuous generosity from the Legion supporting our ability in saving lives on the water!
We are hosting an open house for our station this Saturday May 7th! We are very excited to welcome our community to view the ready room and boat house. The open house will include guided tours with opportunity to hop on the boat and chat with our rescue volunteers.
Our station received a call-out at 7:59 am regarding a vessel adrift near Separation point. Rescue crew set up an alongside tow and pulled the vessel to Fisherman's Wharf where it was tied to the breakwater.
Last night our station was called out for a man overboard in Cowichan Bay. The man was rowing from his sailboat when his dinghy capsized. The man was taken by ambulance for hypothermia treatment and possible head injury. See our facebook or instagram for further details.
Each year our volunteers brave the cold waters to familiarize themselves with their gear. Each member must be able to locate the various pieces and demonstrate use while floating. Two new crew members were able to display competency while persevering a chilly -1 degrees!

Our station had the pleasure of supporting the MBYC's Carols Afloat this past Saturday. The RCMSAR crew led the procession keeping watch for logs and hazards so the lit-up boats could safely float past the jolly spectators.

In Cowichan Bay a couple weeks ago, we came across this navigation hazard. A large deadhead. We spiked it with a marker/RADAR reflector. With higher tides and a very swollen/fast river flushing into the Bay we are experiencing more deadheads and tree logs than usual.
Last night our station completed the annual fitness test at the pool. This was a pleasant treat as we usually do this testing in the chilly ocean waters! The annual fitness test includes locating and using all gear attached to suits and a simulated PFD competency test
