Excited to announce the documentary film I've been advising on since pre-pandemic is about to kick(start) things up a notch! It's about my amazing mentor Sandy Stone. Join us here or on IG (same handle). Happy Pride!

To consider safety and the ability of everyone to participate without harassment or prejudiced, exclusionary behavior, we must always remember that some jerks still believe the game industry *welcomes* bad behavior, even if we don’t.

…and worse because everything keeps growing, sprawling, with networks and resources for people at risk spread thin or reeling from change. Successive waves of get-rich carpetbaggers hawking biz exploits; lots of dark corners that turn a blind eye or don’t think about predators.

In the aftermath of heinous incidents at GDC, I have many similar feelings. At times I end up thinking it’s all too possible for things to be simultaneously “better” and “worse.” Better in bright spots where people care about safety and addressing terrible behavior…

I interviewed someone yesterday and was saying that, sure our culture is better than every place I’ve worked but the industry overall is so much better than when I was coming up and well, I TAKE IT BACK.

I feel like this might be a good time to talk about the steps I take because I’m *AFRAID* any time I have to travel to an industry event like GDC, PAX, E3, gamescom, etc etc etc. I have to travel solo a lot and there’s a reason I’m an anxious mess when I get on my flights.

PSA - 1st time GDC speakers. In a few weeks, you'll receive the results from the feedback form. Attendees don't all know that it is sent unfiltered to speakers. And some can be bigots. You can: - ask someone else to read & filter back the relevant bits - ignore it & bin it

Every year, there are stories about groping, drugging, harassment, and even more stories of countless attempts to create opportunities for assault at games industry events like #GDC23. It's heartbreaking and infuriating that this feels so normalized... Text SUPPORT to 23368.

any not-in-moscone not-gdc indie hangout things happening this year? I feel so out of the loop with whatever's happening

Often, friends/supporters will tell someone who's being harassed not to "feed the trolls" out of good intention and well meaning wishes for the harassment to end and not escalate. Here's why that's not helpful.

Music fun fact: The oldest flute is 60,000 years old, while the earliest indications of humans wearing pants date 20,000 years ago, indicating an approx. 40,000-year historical period where we had music, but no pants

Glory & power to the women & girls in Iran who have seized the narrative & become object and subject in a feminist revolution they began & which they propel. They are heroes, yes. But look at Time magazine (L) impose politeness on their revolution (R). Revolutions are not polite

With full, heavy hearts, we share that Shatzi, @peoplesbubbie, died at the age of 92. 💔🕯 An anti-Zionist Jew, lesbian, AIDS nurse, death educator, Shatzi was a source of wisdom and joy for our community. May her memory be for a revolution, from New York to Palestine. 🧵

The only way to prevent survivors from being incarcerated is abolition. Abolition feminism gives us the politics and practice to do that work. There are steps we can take along the way-non-reformist reforms (thanks @incitenews and @C_Resistance)-but abolition has to be the goal.
