Great to see @scotgovhealth leading the way. How will you ensure all voices are heard? An online consultation assumes literacy, fairly fluent English, & access to internet. The least well-served are often most in need, with needs not seen, understood or addressed. @NoBarriersHere

"The hospice funding model is no longer fit for purpose." Katie Reade, Hospice UK's Head of Policy & Public Affairs appeared on @BBCBreakfast yesterday to discuss the hospice funding crisis as @MytonHospices launch an urgent appeal to tackle spiralling demand and costs.

We're pleased to hear @wesstreeting acknowledge the brilliant care provided by hospices like @StCHospice & @SFHUK - and the pressures that hospices are under. We look forward to working with the Secretary of State & team to find solutions to challenges and help fix the NHS.

In response to the #Darzi #NHS report, today I asked SoS @DHSCgovuk whether he would ensure that #hospices are put on a sustainable footing so that they can be part of community based healthcare - key to securing the NHS we need for the future @hospiceuk @StCHospice

Lord Darzi's diagnosis of the challenges facing our health and social care system makes for brutal reading. We welcome his recognition that society needs to restart the conversation about how to die well. Read our full statement: ow.ly/UjYq50TlRJw

We are truly determined to get a focus on this. There will be even more people not getting great end of life care in addition to all those who already miss out. The resources to fix this are tiny compared to health spend @hospiceuk @tobyhporter

This is the sixth hospice to make an announcement of service cuts in recent months. This hospice funding crisis needs to end. @StCHospice said the decision was "heartbreaking". The government must step up to ensure high quality end of life care for all. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

In the final month of life, people often end up at A&E. As this @NuffieldTrust analysis shows, better community care could offer more appropriate support. Hospices can play a big role here. But some - like @St_Raphs - are having to cut back these services. It needs to change.

NEW BLOG: Care in the last month of life is a core activity within emergency hospital care. 🏥 The last piece in our end of life series explores how hospital services are used at the end of life and how they could be improved. nuffieldtrust.org.uk/news-item/how-…

This is a story unfolding across the country. Hospices are reducing services to make their funds add up. We can’t overspend. The hospice community needs support now. Why us more than others clamouring for help. Simply put we don’t get a second chance to go back and do it right.

This is devastating news. Community hospice services are vital for providing quality, compassionate care at the most difficult times. They also play an invaluable role in easing the pressure on hospitals.

Or even @PaulJsays!! 😂

Heading home from @hospiceuk board with @PaulJThinks @sharonallenarhc @tobyhporter & co. So good to see the progress the charity is making on its three strategic aims of improving equity of access, enhancing quality of care and achieving sustainability across the hospice network.

On my way to Hospice House for @hospiceuk Board meeting. Loo loo my forward to meeting up with colleagues and as ever an interesting discussion. Particularly high on the agenda atm the worsening state of hospice finances and the service cuts that do many are having to make.

Following our announcement that 20% of UK hospices have cut or plan to cut services, @St_Raphs, @trinityhospice and @PAHospice are calling for government action after their urgent requests for more funding have have gone unmet. 👇

We are facing imminent reductions to our services due to the lack of increased NHS funding from @SWLNHS Thank you to @PAHospice and @TrinityHospice for their support through a joint statement issued today about the funding challenges for UK hospices.👇 straphaels.org.uk/the-right-to-a…

love this quote from @RoyLilley “When will they learn... you cannot inspect quality into a system. It’s like shouting at a flower to make it grow.”I love it as a gardener and as a sometime leader of health services working with people..99% of whom are trying to do their best!

This week the country decides who forms the next government. The timing could not be more critical for hospice and end of life care, which urgently needs supporting. Whoever ends up in power could make this a turning point for UK hospices. Read more 👇 hospiceuk.org/latest-from-ho…
