It looks increasingly like the electorate are being conditioned for some bad news in the UK autumn budget. I’ll be surprised if the chancellor doesn’t target tax relief on Pensions ie all relief set at 20%. Estimated to save the chancellor £10 to £12 billion per year.🤔
Hungary bans smartphones in schools and Gavin Newsom bans them in Californian schools. From one end of the political spectrum to the other- governments are banning phones in schools. 👏👏👏 Why? Phones are bad for your kids! Don’t give them one! europeanconservative.com/articles/news/…
The most sensible analysis of the British riots I have yet seen
This is what the new government doesn’t understand and why they too will fail us on housing without bolder leadership
Customers HATE paying for small stuff, but don't mind paying for big stuff. Law firms and CPAs get this wrong because they charge for every single interaction, no matter how small. The customer feels like they are being "nickel and dimed" to death.
You're definitely right about everything, your tribe is on the right side of history and nuance is weakness. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
Strongly agree to ban phones in school below 16
I used to think ‘leave it up to parents and to individual heads’. But no more. We don’t let parents decide whether kids should be allowed smoking, alcohol or sex. Same with phones. Ban them for under 16s. ✊🏾 theguardian.com/world/2023/jul…
"Agreement is comparatively unimportant in the search for truth... People did strongly agree, for a long time, on many erroneous doctrines (such as the Ptolemaic system of the world); and agreement is often the result of the fear of intolerance or even of violence." –Karl Popper
I got a business lesson from a chef pal yesterday: "We all buy bagged frozen calamari from Sysco, I can call it fried calamari, put it in a red plastic basket with some marinara and sell if for "$7.99" I can call it crispy calamari, toss it with five spice and sweet chili…
Skills and low taxes are the luxuries you buy from the prosperity your infrastructure and ingenuity built. They may later reinforce that prosperity but they're the icing on the cake. We need to bake the cake.
It’s pretty wild how quickly online dating became the primary relationship path
Never thought I'd see a joke that includes both private equity and modern gender identity satire.
Just walked past my snowboard and found myself winking at it. Not sure what this means.
Frightening when it ends
The Help to Buy scheme that helped many onto the ladder whilst inflating property prices, “completes” tomorrow. Since the scheme was introduced house prices have inc 54% according to Nationwide. Leaving the Treasury 2bn up & others unable to now “step up” @thetimes @tomhtimes
It's happening....
Any landlords who are selling or recently sold their buy-to-let interested in telling me why for @thetimes? I'm particularly interested to hear why the sums aren't adding up for you anymore #journorequest
Five-star report from Savills, with evidence showing new home sales falling by 50,000 a year to 90,000. Deadly combination of fewer sales outlets and fewer sales per outlet. Disagree with diagnosis (blame planners, not developers) but first-class analysis. lpdf.co.uk/wx-uploads/fil…
Exceptional interview with @glosswitch just now. First introduction to her work on feminism. Gonna buy her book
