A reminder that the cost of completely abolishing tuition fees is less than the yearly cost of the triple lock of pensions. Worth remembering when ministers insist that young people must pay even more for the education their parents and grandparents got for free.

Cool fact: nuclear is so safe, it's actually likely more people have died from radiation from *wind* energy. That's bc rare earth metals needed for magnets in many turbines are found largely in NW China with radioactive material that has been dumped/run into rivers/fields.

Australia is one of the sunniest and windiest countries on Earth, but Peter Dutton would rather play a game of nuclear roulette in our backyard than support renewables.

The legal max a person can donate to a candidate is $3300. But, when billionaires like Elon Musk exploit our broken campaign finance laws to donate $45 million a month to a candidate, we’re no longer a democracy and it’s no longer an election — it’s an oligarchy and an auction.

You'd need to be earning about £120k to afford this 700sqft, two bed terrace in Cambridge. That's "highly paid professional" money for an ordinary home. That doesn't mean there are "loads of exec homes", it means there aren't enough homes, period.

One reason why you're hearing so much about Labour's private school VAT plans, and less about say the climate crisis or child poverty: while only 7% of children overall go to private schools, the figure is about 44% for newspaper columnists and broadcasters (via Sutton Trust)

🚨Exciting paper news🚨Really happy to share our recent work in @NatureMaterials on quantum emitters in hBN! Have a read why we are so excited about these tiny spins⤵️ bit.ly/4bJhdGm rdcu.be/dIsXU @hstern65 @CMGilardoni @seizagirre @MeteAtature @igordownunder

#spins #quantum and #hBN! @TMOS_ARC @UTS_Science amazing collaborative work with @MeteAtature and his team! Lead by legendary Hanna Stern. Hey @AlboMP U want quantum made in Aus- call me. Practical quantum tech conceived and developed here in #Australia.

Our latest manuscript reporting a quantum coherent spin under ambient conditions is published in @NatureMaterials! The material is hexagonal boron nitride and the work is in collaboration with @igordownunder rdcu.be/dIrf2

🌟 Researchers at Cavendish have found that a 'single atomic defect' in a layered 2D material can store quantum information for microseconds at room temperature. This underscores the incredible potential of 2D materials in advancing quantum technologies!🔬 buff.ly/3V2mqmZ

Keir Starmer can remember opening the A-Level Results Envelope that meant he could go to University with no Fees, no Student Loan and a Grant. He pledged that he would stop those fees so you could get some of the support he got. But has decided to break that pledge

Congratulations to those getting their A-Level results today. I remember opening that envelope. My results allowed me to become the first in my family to go to university. That's why I will shatter the class ceiling, so that all young people have the opportunities they deserve.

Compare and contrast. Spraypaint a building to fight climate change, you're an "eco-zealot" that must be stopped. Destroy property that will help keep London's air clean, you're a "Blade Runner" and "underground activist" who should be praised.

Seems impossible that any government could win another term in power with this being true.

Real wages in the UK are today lower than 18 years ago (!), and workers have seen substantial real wages losses since austerity started under the Tories in 2010.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a thin film grower in possession of good samples, must be in want of an optics collaborator
