I have devised an entirely foolproof, and 100% accurate method for determining whether land owners are genuine farmers or not. Tell the land owner that land in their area has doubled in value. Happy = investor Sad = farmer

I don't like to sound sensationalist, but these comments from @SteveReedMP are bordering on insane. I'm on record as saying these changes aren't as bad as being made out, but to suggest that it will cause no farms to shrink shows a 0% understanding of farming economics.

@DefraGovUK secretary @SteveReedMP has ruled out a U-turn on any of the measures outlined in the Budget that are set to damage the farming sector. READ MORE: fwi.co.uk/news/defra-sec…

This is a very well thought out and presented video on the possible implications of APR reform youtu.be/DfoDw3fQbBg?si… It does seem that a better test of who is an active farmer (very difficult I know) would accomplish the aims of the govt better than what they are proposing

We had 20% IHT on farms in the UK until 1992. Denmark has been paying 15% for decades. This is an unpleasant change, not a killer blow to the entire industry.

We have payed 15% inheritance tax for decades in DK (sometimes slightly less). Yet we still have family farms. Actual farming needs to make more money. Not just long term benefits of owning the land.

Interesting thread. Not sure I'd agree with post 16 though.

In an attempt to throw some light on things…some thoughts on yesterday’s Budget announcement on Inheritance Tax Reliefs (APR/BPR) and farm businesses… (1/) 🧵

Interested to find out just now when researching the history of APR that it was only 50% until 1992. I guess that explains why there were no farms in the UK before 1992.
