Did you know that Section 264 (1) of the Constitution states that the three tiers of Government are: National Government; Provincial and Metropolitan Councils; and Local Authorities
Did you know that the devolution and decentralisation policy seeks to bring the Government closer to communities and make it more accessible as a way of enhancing responsiveness, accountability, and participatory governance over local development agendas?
Did you know that the Constitution recognises the presence of Provincial Councils, and Local Government structures such that what remains would be devolving powers to these through fiscalising so that decentralisation goes across the administrative, fiscal and market formations?
City council representatives advised the residents that there isn’t enough underground water in Hopley for boreholes to be drilled to serve the whole community.
Council have engaged a private company responsible for road construction that damaged some water pipes to distribute water to some affected areas which they are doing.
Water point committees were advised to promote transparency& accountability as they handle community resources to ensure they are in a position to service their boreholes. The Council highlighted that they have 30 boreholes but only 19 are working as many of them are now dry
Residents requested the council to provide piped water and the training of water point committees as some committee members are now abusing their positions through seeking for sexual favors from young girls - sextortion. @CEAAZim @MoLGPWZim @HarareCouncil
@lrfzim will assist willing water points to draft constitutions with the guidance of the District Officer and also facilitate unpaid care work awareness raising sessions with other partners.@CEAAZim @ewmiorg @UsaidZimbabwe @HarareCouncil @MoLGPWZim @UNICEFZIMBABWE @WorldVisionZim
The LRF conducted a citizen empowerment dialogue with duty bearers in Hopley to discuss access to water challenges for Hopley residents. Residents engaged with duty bearers and shared that in some areas, over 500 residents use one water point adding pressure to access water.
