On the roads between Bredasdorp, Agulhas and Elim, you’ll see flutters of butterflies visiting the flowers next to the road. But it also means they’re hit by passing cars. If you can this #TakeCareTuesday, slow down to let them pass on the road where it’s safe for you to do so.

A wildfire spread from the Agulhas National Park onto the Nuwejaars #Wetlands SMA earlier in February. Despite the many negative impacts of the fire, there was also a positive side: It brought a community together to help – no questions asked. Here’s more: bit.ly/3UWbibw

“This was our first game drive in the Nuwejaars Wetlands and we enjoyed it very much. Eugene, our guide, spotted the smallest birds. Much to our surprise we saw Waterbuck, Buffalo, Quaggas and could hear the sound of Hippos. We’ll definitely be coming back.” - Svenja, Germany

Look who hopped our way, to welcome in 2024? It’s an Arum Lily Frog, the inspiration behind our Nuwejaars Wetlands SMA logo! Isn’t he gorgeous? Photo: Fraser Crighton

This is a wonderful way to start 2024 - with a sincere thank you to the @sa_nlc They’re supporting a Nuwejaars Wetlands SMA project to restore our threatened #fynbos, including Critically Endangered Agulhas Limestone Fynbos, and create green jobs in the process.

In the past year, as the Nuwejaars wetlands restoration project has continued with support from our incredible donor, @WWFSouthAfrica, we recorded 6 African Marsh Harrier nests across 3 wetlands in the space of just 2 days. Image: @HelenBad on iNaturalist

Nuwejaars team members and farmworkers have just completed First Aid training, thanks to the Western Cape Department of Agriculture. This was the third course that we facilitated, funded by the Department in the past few weeks.

It’s rare that you WON’T see roadkill when driving roads on the Agulhas Plain. The #Bredasdorp to #Struisbaai road is a prime example. As is Bredasdorp to #Elim. This #GivingTuesday we want to make our roads safer - for drivers AND wildlife. Here’s how: nuwejaars.com/lets-make-our-…

Conservation Manager Erica Brink has become our drone expert. She’s using the drone to help map our invasive alien plants. Where the drone couldn’t do the job, we used a fixed-wing airplane (funded by the #FynbosTrust). And then we groundtruth this through site visits.
