9 years ago, Saudi-UAE-led coalition airstrikes began in Yemen, escalating the country's pre-existing civil war. In partnership with @newhumanitarian, we hear from Yemenis about how the war has affected them, and what they hope will come next. 🔗: aje.io/r976ad
And here is a beautifully illustrated interactive from @AJEnglish, featuring voices from The Yemen Listening Project🇾🇪👂aje.io/r976ad

“There is little room left for the average Yemeni to express their opinions, and talk about their needs. They feel that they are not being heard.” -Yemen Listening Project coordinator @NuhaAljunaid on stories people shared and why they matter on @TheWorld theworld.org/media/2024-03-…

The scope, depth, and dedication it took to capture and share stories from across #Yemen .. you can hear the trauma but also the appreciation in people's voices that someone is finally allowing them opportunity to tell their unfiltered story. Kudos @annieslem and @NuhaAljunaid
I’m proud to finally announce the launch of The Yemen Listening Project. An Arabic-English collection of nearly 100 personal stories, from Yemenis, about what it has been like to live through a war that enters its 10th year this week. 🧵thenewhumanitarian.org/yemenlistening…
That’s why our internal motto with this project was “meet people where they’re at.” We set up a dedicated Yemeni WhatsApp line with project coordinator @NuhaAljunaid there to answer in Yemeni Arabic. Plus social media groups, a dedicated email address, forms, you name it...
I am honored and so grateful that so many people trusted us with their stories. Thank you to every single person who shared. Especially to @NuhaAljunaid, a truly remarkable woman whose own story you can hear on this podcast, ⬇️🎧thenewhumanitarian.org/podcasts/2024/…
I have come to admire so many things about Nuha throughout this process, not least her honesty about the toll this type of work takes, and the importance of mental health. And soooo many people mentioned the psychological toll of war in their stories.
I’m psyched to tell the internet about something I’ve been thinking about, talking about, and working on @newhumanitarian for a long time: The Yemen Listening Project! 🇾🇪👂🧵thenewhumanitarian.org/yemenlistening…
As coordinator for #TheYemenListeningProject, @NuhaAljunaid realises they might just be stories to listeners, but urges understanding that “it is a reality. And it is a pain for Yemenis all over the world.” @annieslem guest hosts this episode. buff.ly/3viYrWJ
