On the other hand, Trump has vowed to slap punitive tariffs on damned near everything, which will make Canadian goods *much* more expensive (and less appealing) in the U.S., so I'm not sure how Canadians bitching about the cost of everything *now* thinks that's a win.
Ignore, for the moment, the raging hypocrisy related to Canadian cons who, on the one hand, howl about stopping the crime, while celebrating the re-election of a convicted felon and adjudicated rapist. Just put that hypocrisy to the side for now.
That is, I have yet to see a cogent explanation from any of these people about how a Trump presidency is going to improve their situation; any promised Trump policy that will make their lives measurably better by any metric.
One of the things that baffles me about the Canadian reaction to Trump's re-election is the number of Canadian right-wingers who are absolutely *giddy* over that victory, but it's not at all clear *why*, as it's unclear exactly how that is going to improve their lives up here.
The Thompsons, the Westons, the Irvings, the McCains, the Rogers. Jimmy Pattison. Chip Wilson. These oligarchs are laughing at us. Food bank use explodes as their riches piles higher. Tax this obscene wealth and rebuild our broken public sphere! Or rage will win here too.

It is important to report on rising antisemitic incidents. It is also a choice to not highlight disturbing trends in hate targeting other communities. VPD has issued no separate releases about anti-immigration rhetoric, residential school denial, or transphobes fuelling hate.
VPD didn’t elaborate on whether it would or wouldn’t code some pro-Palestine or anti-Israel messaging as hate-motivated, but it bears mentioning as they alluded to the issue. When VPD was asked about this previously by the G&M, they declined to comment. theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…
