(1/8) My book has been published by @routledgebooks A 🧵 on what’s in it: ‘Traumatised Witnesses in International Criminal Trials’ is based mostly on an analysis of transcripts of proceedings and case law of the #ICTY, the #ICC and Dutch courts prosecuting international crimes.

Police and immigration officials often interview individuals from different cultures about potentially traumatising events. In this article, @AminaMemon1, Zoe Given-Wilson and I discuss how trauma, culture and memory may interact. A thread. (1/10) www-tandfonline-com.vu-nl.idm.oclc.org/doi/full/10.10…

This may be well-intentioned but every $ pledged ONLY for #Ukraine investigations is one invested in the perception that all victims are NOT the same. Stop it. The Russians will use it to raise qs on independence. Fund the #ICC properly and don't earmark $ per situation.

Instead of providing the #ICC with a sustainable amount of yearly funding for its budget, states again have dedicated millions of $ earmarked for 🇺🇦. There'll be much backslapping. But this is the kind of money that only helps undermine ICC impartiality. apnews.com/article/ukrain…

Nadia Volkova (Director, Ukrainian Legal Advisory Group, Kyiv) underlines that while help from abroad sent to Ukraine to investigate crimes is appreciated, these practitioners come with ‘a blueprint’ in mind. And they need to understand the specificity of the situation #IBACrime
