My last job was as Senior Stellarator Engineer at an early stage fusion startup. I was the lead design 'ideas' guy for stellarator systems - here's some things I learned about the art and science of stellarator design 🧵 First off, a stellarator is indeed a work of art:

New paper out today! We compared several species of limpet from across the Atlantic and found exceptional correlation of Mg/Ca with sea surface temperature. The samples also included previously unsuccessful limpets from earlier publications. They work now! doi.org/10.1016/j.pala…

Happy to share our new paper in @NatureComms We found that geological global warming intensified dry conditions in sub-tropical regions for thousands of years. Our research reveals that Mediterranean zones are prone to future aridification. nature.com/articles/s4146…

Important, but unsurprising result shows that the publication status and experience of mentors is highly predictive of the publication/citation success of early career researchers. science.org/content/articl…

The carbon cycle has been close to equilibrium through the Holocene; we know this because we measure atmospheric CO2 concentrations in ice cores. But in the past few centuries CO2 has increased by 50%, and is now at the highest level in millions of years due to human emissions.

Very nice, detailed study into the #sclerochronology of #Pliocene (3 million year old) scallops from the Mediterranean building daily growth increments showing that these animals stopped growing in summer under warm climate conditions 🐚🌡️ sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
