#OnThisDay in 1937: Reginald Joseph Mitchell died at home in Russell Place, Portswood. Mitchell worked at Supermarine in Woolston where he famously designed the Spitfire. It first flew in 1936. The iconic aircraft had its finest hour three years after Mitchell’s death.
