I hate more than anyone to repost but: got laid off in October, came close to stuff since, still unemployed. My experience in film distribution is enormous and I'm ever-active as a programmer. Media jobs may be iffy, but open to freelance assignments. twitter.com/Nick_Newman/st…

I've been laid off. Need a job and can do many things, including: • Basically everything in film distribution and home-video production • Programming and curation • Great interviewer and critic • Clean prose and copy-editing • Decent onscreen actor DMs open, email in bio.

The Orion logo's transformation — from warm, inviting, "you're about to watch something made by real people" to "company that merges with your employer and engenders a mercilessly calculated percentage of layoffs" — is so brutal. We were never asked.

Rhapsody in August (Akira Kurosawa, 1991) Decided to watch all my unseen Kurosawas. Will be surprised if any are better than this.

Jerry Seinfeld's TMDb photo is deeply unnerving. They somehow found the exact height you're never supposed to see him from.

The Pit of Death (Koji Shima, 1968) Snatched this the second I saw horror and noir listed side-by-side on the genre tab. As a Big Clock riff, better at the latter but cheap and stark enough to suggest the apocalyptic.

Chuffed to cameo in the best writing on this (I think great) film as "a friend."

On Robert Zemeckis’ profoundly ersatz and unnerving HERE, surely the strangest new American movie I’ve seen this year, for ⁦@reverse_shotreverseshot.org/reviews/entry/…

This was their Heat. Now it's time for their Irishman.

Great seeing Robert Zemeckis' Here at a Drafthouse... realizing I was witnessing the most experimental multiplex release since Thee Tree of Life while gnoshing on buffalo cauliflower bites... calculating tip through a veil of tears as I confronted my fears and disappointments...

"We are, what they say, 'the pirates,' but everybody was admiring the pirates. Now we go to prison if we do the things we have done in the past."

When I saw Paulo Branco would be in Tokyo I knew I had to get an interview. An honor to sit with, for my money, the greatest producer in film history and talk Raúl Ruiz, Manoel de Oliveira, David Cronenberg, Chantal Akerman, João César Monteiro: thefilmstage.com/less-money-mor…

Really, few tickets. I'm not lying. Look.

Long relegated to beat-up copies with handmade subs, the restored neo-noir 'Yokohama BJ Blues' has an official U.S. premiere this Monday. A few tickets are still available: thefilmstage.com/yokohama-bj-bl…

Ah yes another fall of EPIC quotes from SIR RIDLEY shared with much more frequency than actual opinions on his new film, for some reason, why could that be.

Ridley Scott on Quentin Tarantino: “Shut up and go make another movie.”

Brief preview of a great interview I'll have next year.

I maintain all my thoughts on current events like George Lucas treats his post-retirement experimental films (shared with friends, probably not very good, to be revealed after my death)

Some good news

Hoping America can see clearly and choose a man who puts what's needed above his wants, who goes the extra mile for those in dire straits. I refer, of course, to Justin Kemp, juror #2.
