Exciting work worth tracking!

How can autistic adults thrive? This should be one of the questions at the heart of autism research. Excited to have examined it with an amazing team of autistic and non-autistic co-authors. You can read it here (should be free to access): rdcu.be/cUZkz

Why is “independence” the goal for disabled people instead of community?

Other states take note and follow suit! Proud to have co-created this and excited for future efforts of CHFA 🤩

CHFA’s Neuro-inclusive Housing White Paper explores housing needs and resources for Colorado residents with an Intellectual and/or Developmental Disability (I/DD). Learn more and download the paper here: chfainfo.com/whitepaper

Time to close data gaps and ensure adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities living with senior family caregivers are counted in local needs assessments!

This Administration just made housing supply history. The Housing Supply Action Plan will help close America’s housing supply shortfall in 5 years, making it the most comprehensive all-of-government effort to close the housing supply shortfall in history. whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/…

“Our regional homelessness authority was designed around the idea that if we listen to people with the lived experience of homelessness, we can…build systems of dignity and healing…and actually end homelessness.” -@marcformarc welcomes #HCH2022 attendees to Seattle.

Kudos @CHFA and @DRCOGorg for a fantastic gathering of Colorado leaders from affordable housing and healthcare industries. Future collabs were certainly found in this curated space. #housingishealthcare #socialdeterminantsofhealth

I look forward to the day that community developers and planners start to ask “Why do only 2% of adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities live in their own home?”

Coined by the late architect and planner Ronald L. Mace, Universal Design is defined as "the design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design." strongtowns.org/journal/2022/4…

Housing is a powerful Social Determinant of Health. Healthcare providers and managed care companies are exciting partners for #housinginnovation

Ableist language perpetuates ableist thinking which hides barriers and research that can identify how the neurotypical world and processes ignores accessibility challenges for autistic adults to access housing, employment, healthcare, etc…

Research Reflections -Ableist language in autism research influences (and is influenced by) cultural values and assumptions - These assumptions affect what researchers study, how they study it, and the conclusions they draw

What was the biggest game changer for my career? Reading books by autistic authors and intentionally consulting with the #ActuallyAustistic community.
