Some personal news: Tomorrow is my last day at The Athletic. I'm moving to a job outside of journalism, but I'm so, so thankful for my time at the publication and in this business.
Mets having a soccer promotion day. Almost as if they like us more than the Yankees do. All we got was complaints from texiera about the field. Partly wishing the Steve Cohen was a partner over the Yankees.
From a medical prospective this is a great move. It takes longer to do a proper assessment than the 15 seconds Atheltic Trainers examine the players on the field.
At what point during this season we break out the 5 in the back? I mean if I recall correctly we didn’t start winning until we made a formation change last year to 5 in the back. And I’d love to see a back line of martins chanot and gray.
Random thoughts on the FO not sure our FO deserves the credit they get on the transfer business they do. Sure their hit rate is through the roof but nobody talks about their timing. How do we never have a team ready week one and we have 2 shield contending years ruined in June.
Some good some bad for NYCFC: A point on the road in MLS is good. A point vs Chicago is bad. Sands and Santi just got here and are a little rusty. Still no 9 so attack looks awkward. Overall you take the point and know that soon enough this team is going to take off. #NYCFC

#NYCFC HT 💭: Mitja Ilenic is phenomenal. His defensive instincts and positioning are near perfect and he’s a good attacker too. What a find. Chicago is awful, so this is a good matchup for NYC to build confidence. Good chances have been created but could get even better.
